Before you start
Create your signature in the free editor, make sure any photo or logo is hosted (the editor warns you if it isn't), then use Copy signature.
AGmail on the web (desktop browser)
- 1
In SignaturesDB, click “Copy signature”.
- 2
Open Gmail in a desktop browser, click the gear icon, then “See all settings”.
- 3
On the General tab, scroll to “Signature” and click “Create new”. Give it a name.
- 4
Click inside the signature box and paste (Ctrl+V on Windows, ⌘V on Mac).
- 5
Under “Signature defaults”, choose the signature for new emails and for replies/forwards.
- 6
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Save Changes”.
BGmail apps for iPhone and Android
- 1
The apps use your web signature unless a separate mobile signature is turned on.
- 2
In the app, open Settings, select your account and make sure the plain-text mobile signature is off if you want the HTML version.
Known limitations in Gmail
- Gmail allows up to 10,000 characters per signature, so keep disclaimers short.
- Images must be hosted on a public https:// URL. Gmail fetches them through its image proxy, so changes to the image can take time to show.
- Gmail strips some CSS, but table layouts and inline styles from SignaturesDB are kept.
Troubleshooting
- The signature pasted as code. You copied the HTML instead of the signature. Use “Copy signature”.
- Images are missing. Check the editor for warnings. Images stored only in your browser are not included until they have a public https:// URL.
- The layout looks different. Send a test email to yourself and check it on desktop and mobile. If one client struggles, try a simpler template such as Classic or Modern Minimal.
