Before you start
Create your signature in the free editor, make sure any photo or logo is hosted (the editor warns you if it isn't), then use Copy HTML.
AOption A: paste the HTML code
- 1
In SignaturesDB, click “Copy HTML”.
- 2
In Thunderbird, open the ≡ menu › Account Settings and select your email address.
- 3
Check “Use HTML (e.g., <b>bold</b>)” next to Signature text.
- 4
Click into the signature text box and paste the code.
- 5
Close the settings tab. The signature is added to new messages.
BOption B: attach the signature from a file
- 1
In SignaturesDB, click “Download .html” and save the file somewhere permanent.
- 2
In Account Settings, check “Attach the signature from a file instead”.
- 3
Click “Choose…” and select the downloaded file.
Known limitations in Thunderbird
- Paste the HTML code, not the rendered signature, into the “Use HTML” box. Otherwise you'll see the code as text in your emails.
- Thunderbird may ask before loading remote images in messages you receive. That is normal and does not affect recipients.
Troubleshooting
- The signature pasted as code. You copied the HTML instead of the signature. Use “Copy signature” unless you're pasting into an HTML field.
- Images are missing. Check the editor for warnings. Images stored only in your browser are not included until they have a public https:// URL.
- The layout looks different. Send a test email to yourself and check it on desktop and mobile. If one client struggles, try a simpler template such as Classic or Modern Minimal.
